Connie first set foot through the Buckswood Overseas Summer School (BOSS) gates as a 15 year old in 2016 and has spent every summer (except 2020) at BOSS since. There comes a time however in our students’ lives when they the inevitable happens, they turn 18, and are no longer able to return to BOSS. But when this happened to Connie in February 2019, it didn’t stop her from getting her fix so she applied to work at BOSS and straight away, we knew that she would make a great member of staff. Little did we know then though that she would actually make an absolutely brilliant member of staff and within her first two weeks working with us, she was promoted from Summer School Assistant to House Tutor due to her work ethic, her rapport with the students, and the excellent feedback that she was receiving from both students, Group Leaders and colleagues alike.
Connie was a model student. The type of student that completely embraced everything that BOSS had to offer. Extremely enthusiastic about the English language, Connie was constantly practising and getting involved in conversations, making friends with students of all nationalities so as to avoid speaking her native language. She constantly sailed through her Trinity College Graded Examination in Spoken English and one day her examiner (a PhD of the English Language nonetheless) commented during the post exams feedback that she, ‘was near native.’ She proved this in summer 2019 when, as a member of staff, she prepared herself to take the Trinity grade 12 (level C2) exam and of course, passed with flying colours.
