About BOSS
Buckswood Overseas Summer School (BOSS) is part of Buckswood School and the wider Buckswood Family, giving our students the benefit of an established, trusted educational community in the UK. Based on the beautiful Buckswood campus in East Sussex, BOSS has been welcoming international students aged 8 to 17 since 2012.

At BOSS, learning English is only the beginning. Our programmes include 20 hours of English per week, the Trinity College London exam, leadership training, and a choice of specialist academies. Beyond lessons, students enjoy activities, sports, and cultural excursions that help them grow in confidence, independence, and life skills.
We create a safe, nurturing environment where every student belongs, develops friendships across cultures, and broadens their horizons.
Parents trust BOSS for safeguarding, welfare, and holistic development, while students return for the fun, adventure, and friendships that last a lifetime.

Our Mission
Our mission at BOSS is to provide international students aged 8 to 17 with more than just an English summer school in the UK. We aim to create a safe, nurturing environment where every child can improve their English, develop leadership and life skills, and grow in confidence. By combining high-quality teaching with activities, excursions, and a strong sense of community, our goal is to help students broaden their horizons, make lifelong friendships, and feel part of the BOSS Family.
Our Values
Our values shape everything we do. We are committed to providing a safe and caring environment where every student feels at home. We believe in personal growth, helping young people build confidence, independence, and leadership skills while improving their English. Curiosity and learning are at the heart of our programmes, alongside a strong sense of belonging within the BOSS Family. We balance high-quality teaching with fun, adventure, and cultural exchange, ensuring that every student not only learns but also makes lifelong memories and friends. People trust BOSS for our excellence, professionalism, and focus on safeguarding and wellbeing.

Meet the Team
Our team is at the heart of everything we do. During our summer and spring courses, we bring together up to 30 dedicated staff members, supported by our catering, housekeeping, maintenance, and transport teams. Throughout the rest of the year, BOSS is run by Neil and Sue, who have led the school since the beginning in 2011.

This continuity means that BOSS is more than just a workplace – it is a community built on care, pride, and experience. Many of our seasonal staff return year after year, with some having been part of the team for over a decade. Their commitment ensures that every student enjoys a safe, supportive, and unforgettable experience. For us, BOSS is more than a summer school – it’s a family, and we put our all into making it special.
Neil
Director
Neil has worked in international education for 19 years and has led BOSS since it began in 2011. He plans and prepares each course, recruits our wonderful students and staff, and directs the programme once it’s underway.

His favourite part of the job is meeting students from all over the world, getting to know them and learning about their cultures. Neil holds the Trinity DELTM, Trinity CertTESOL, and a BA (Hons) in Drama.

Outside of BOSS, he enjoys travelling with his wife and dog (Boss!), yoga, Brazilian jiu jitsu, nature, women’s football, and being creative through writing, music, and art.

Sue
Registrar & Finance
Sue joined BOSS in 2012 and has been keeping everything organised ever since. She manages student bookings from start to finish and makes sure all the details are in place before students arrive.

Her favourite part of the job is working closely with parents and partners, then meeting the students she has helped to welcome. Sue also enjoys the buzz of the staff team during the spring and summer courses.
With a background in banking, Sue brings precision and care to her role. Outside of work, she loves cooking, gardening, and playing Pickleball.
