Learning at BOSS
At Buckswood Overseas Summer School (BOSS), we believe that learning should never be limited to the four walls of a classroom. Every moment on campus is an opportunity to grow, whether in lessons, activities, or on excursions. Our learner-centred approach means each student is placed at the right level and supported by our energetic and experienced Academic Team.
Classes are small, with a maximum of 16 students, and every classroom is equipped with smart screens. Lessons are lively, motivating, and designed to keep students engaged. Whether inside or outside of the classroom, we give students the chance to practise language in real situations — helping them to build confidence and independence.
A highlight of the programme is that every student works towards two respected qualifications: the Trinity College London Graded Examination in Spoken English, and the Leadership Skills Foundation Young Leader Award. These provide clear goals, internationally recognised certificates, and a real sense of achievement to take home.
By combining strong academics with a fun and supportive environment, BOSS ensures that students not only improve their English but also return home with new skills, happy memories, and lasting confidence.
Our Teachers
Our teachers are experienced, energetic, and passionate about helping young learners succeed. They create engaging lessons that keep students motivated, while offering the support and encouragement needed to build confidence. More than just teachers, they are mentors who inspire students to use English every day, both inside and outside the classroom.
English Levels
All students at BOSS take the Trinity GESE exam, graded from beginner to advanced on the international CEFR scale. We use these grades to place students at the right level and arrange classes that suit their ability. Results range from Pass to Pass with Merit or Distinction, giving every learner a recognised certificate and clear evidence of their progress.
Lesson Content
The content of our lessons is guided by the Trinity College London syllabus and the Leadership Skills Foundation framework. This ensures every class has clear goals, with language and life skills taught side by side. Students learn English in meaningful contexts while also developing teamwork, communication, and confidence — skills that prepare them for success both in school and beyond.
Classes
All students complete an online reading and writing test before arrival and a listening and speaking test on their first day at BOSS. Classes are then organised by our Academic Team, with a maximum of 16 students (average 12). Groups are carefully arranged by level, age, and nationality to ensure a balanced, engaging, and supportive learning environment.
