The School

 

Buckswood Overseas Summer School (BOSS) is a residential English summer school in the UK for international students aged 8–17. In 2027, BOSS runs two courses:

 

• The BOSS Spring Experience: 28th March to 17th April 2027. Minimum stay one week.

• The Great British Summer Experience (our Summer School): 27th June to 14th August 2027. Minimum stay two weeks.

 

Students are expected, subject to conduct and ability, to progress through the programme.

 

Parents/guardians are those with legal responsibility for the student. They are expected to support the aims of the School, uphold and promote its good name, continue the student’s education at home, and ensure appropriate standards of punctuality, behaviour, diligence, language and discipline.

 

Fees

 

Fees are due one month before the start of the course and include:

 

• 15 hours of English lessons and 5 hours of leadership training per week

• Trinity College London Graded Examination in Spoken English (GESE), for stays of two weeks or more

• Leadership Skills Foundation Young Leader Award

• Two full-day and two half-day excursions every week

• Museum and attraction entrance fees on excursions

• Full afternoon, evening and weekend activity programme

• Your chosen BOSS Pathway, three sessions per week

• Course materials

• Full-board accommodation, with daily room cleaning and a weekly laundry service

• BOSS welcome pack: T-shirt, diary, wristband and tote bag

• BOSS certificate, BOSS Passport and end-of-course teacher report

 

Fees do not include:

 

• BOSS Academies (football, tennis and horse riding)

• Airport and station transfers

• Unaccompanied minor service

• Early or late arrivals and extra nights

• Specific accommodation requests

• Flights

• Travel insurance

 

Payment of Fees

 

• All fees, including transfers and extras, must be paid at least one month before the start of the course.

• Bookings and transfers will not be confirmed until all fees are paid in full.

• Where visa documentation is required, full course fees must be paid before documents are issued.

• Students will not be permitted to start the course unless full payment has been received.

 

Booking and Reservations

 

• Please check availability with us before booking, and do not book flights until we have confirmed your place.

• A booking is confirmed only when we have received a completed booking form and a deposit of £250 per booking.

• The deposit is non-refundable.

• Reservations without a deposit cannot be guaranteed.

• Booking deadlines: The BOSS Spring Experience, Sunday 28th February 2027. The Great British Summer Experience, Thursday 27th May 2027. Unconfirmed places may be released after these dates.

 

Correct Information and Administration Charges

 

• Parents/guardians/agents are responsible for providing correct student information.

• Once confirmation documents are received, you have 48 hours to check them. After this period, changes will incur a £25 administration charge.

• Amendments to Trinity College London exam certificates will incur a £50 charge plus postage and packaging.

 

Bank Charges

 

All bank transfer or credit card charges must be covered by the payee. Buckswood Overseas Summer School is not responsible for any charges incurred.

 

Refund Policy

 

• Refunds will be made to the account from which the original payment was received.

• If a visa application is refused, fees (minus cancellation charges) will be refunded within 28 days, provided that:

  • the student has met all visa application requirements; and

  • a visa refusal letter is received at least two working days before the course starts.

• No refund will be made if the refusal is due to the student failing to meet visa criteria.

 

Cancellation Policy

 

• Cancellations must be made in writing to the Summer School Administrator.

• More than 14 days before the course: fees refunded minus the deposit and transfers.

• 14 days or less before the course: 30% of fees, the deposit and transfers are non-refundable.

 

Withdrawal Policy

 

• Withdrawal is defined as leaving after the course has started.

• Withdrawals must be made in writing to the Summer School Administrator.

• No refunds will be given once the course has started.

 

Visas and Entry to the UK

 

• Some students require a visa or an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) to enter the UK.

• Arranging the correct visa or ETA is the responsibility of the student, parent/guardian or agent.

• No visa documentation will be provided until all fees are paid in full.

 

Student Travel Insurance

 

Travel insurance is not included in course fees. Parents/guardians or agents must arrange suitable travel insurance for the full length of the stay.

 

Medication Policy

 

• Medication may only be brought if prescribed, declared on the booking form, and accompanied by a doctor’s note translated into English, signed and stamped.

• Unauthorised medication will be destroyed.

• Group Leaders are not permitted to give students medication under any circumstances.

 

Liability

 

Buckswood Overseas Summer School, its staff and representatives are not liable for loss, damage or injury except where required by law. The School will not be liable if services cannot be supplied due to reasons beyond our control.

 

BOSS Pathways and Programme Changes

 

• Each student’s BOSS Pathway is chosen at the time of booking and is subject to availability.

• Changes to a Pathway after arrival cannot be guaranteed.

• Activities, excursions and Pathway sessions may occasionally be changed for reasons such as weather, safety or availability.

 

Arrival and Departure

 

• All arrivals are on Sundays and all departures are on Saturdays.

• Check-in for students not using transfers is 13:00–17:00 on Sunday.

• Departure collection is 10:00–13:30 on Saturday.

 

Flight and Train Windows

 

• Arrivals: 10:00–16:00.

• Departures: 11:00–18:00.

• Travel outside these times will incur a £150 charge per person.

 

Specific Accommodation Requests

 

• Single, en suite and other specific room requests carry a supplementary charge of £150.

• Requests are not guaranteed without payment.

• Rooms are allocated by age, gender and nationality. They range from single rooms to rooms of up to five for our youngest students; most rooms are twins.

• Limited single rooms are available. There are no en suite rooms for students aged 8–11.

 

Suspension and Expulsion

 

The Director reserves the right to suspend or expel any student for unacceptable conduct. Fees will be forfeited and return travel costs must be covered by parents/guardians.

 

Travel

 

• BOSS is not responsible for flights, trains or other travel arrangements.

• Availability must be checked with the Registrar before booking.

 

Transfers and Unaccompanied Minors

 

• Individual travel details are required one month before arrival.

• Group travel details are required three months before arrival.

• Unaccompanied minor service: £125 return.

 

Extra Nights

 

• £250 per extra night.

 

Exams, Certificates and Reports

 

• Minimum stay to sit the Trinity College London exam: two weeks.

• Exams are taken on campus on the student’s last Friday.

• BOSS certificates are presented on the last day of the course.

• Teacher reports, Young Leader Award certificates and Trinity College London certificates are sent electronically to the parent/guardian email address given on the booking form.

• Trinity College London certificates may take up to 8 weeks to arrive.

 

Lost Property

 

• Students are responsible for their belongings.

• Valuables can be deposited with staff.

• Lost property returned after departure will incur postage and packaging fees.

 

Semi-Supervised Time

 

• Students aged 13–17 may have semi-supervised time during excursions, with written parental permission given on the booking form.

• They must:

  • be in groups of at least 2;

  • wear their BOSS wristband with emergency contact details;

  • register their phone number with staff; and

  • stay within the set supervised area.

• Students aged 12 and under are supervised 100% of the time.

 

Data Protection

 

Buckswood Overseas Summer School complies with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018. A data protection consent form must be received for each student before confirmation documents are issued.
