A Week of Growth, Confidence, and Fun
At Buckswood Overseas Summer School (BOSS), every week is carefully designed to help students learn, grow, and enjoy every moment. Whether your child is outgoing or a little shy, they’ll find comfort in the clear rhythm in each day.
From morning classes to afternoon adventures and evening fun, here’s what a typical week at BOSS looks like.
Monday to Sunday: Clear Structure, Daily Highlights
Each day follows a clear pattern — full of variety, structure, and support.
Morning Routine
Room inspection (fun and team-based — not strict!)
Breakfast with friends
Daily morning assembly in the sports hall (what’s happening, what to wear, fun team game)
3 hours of English lessons preparing for Trinity College London's guided examination in spoken English (GESE)

Lunchtime
Lunch is served in the dining room
Students eat together with staff always present
We cater for all dietary needs, and food is healthy, balanced, and filling
Afternoons
2 more hours (1 hour on Mondays) of classes preparing for the Leadership Skills Foundation Young Leader Award
OR an afternoon trip (Tuesdays and Saturdays)
Activities for all including sports, creativity, moevement such as dance, wellbeing, teamwork and more
Evenings
Dinner
Evening activities: talent shows, sports, campfire, movie night, quiz night, disco and many other BOSS activities (see our programme for further information)
Social time in the courtyard café or common rooms
House meetings to reflect and connect

Excursions: Two Half Days, Two Full Days
Every week includes:
Two half-day trips — e.g. Rye, Hastings and a lot more (see our programme)
Two full-day excursions — e.g. London, Brighton, Harry Potter Studios (see our programme)
Students travel with in groups no bigger than 15, guided by BOSS staff, and enjoy cultural experiences while practising English in real-world settings.

Free Time and Pastoral Support
Free time is supervised, social, and safe. Students can:
Relax with friends in the courtyard
Join optional activities like board games, crafts, or sports
Speak with their house tutor or a member of staff at any time
Our team is always available. We check in, we notice how students are doing, and we offer quiet support when needed — often before they ask.
Classes and Confidence
BOSS students have 20 hours of structured learning per week, tailored to their level. Classes are active and practical — with speaking, listening, leadership and teamwork at the heart.
All students are placed with others of similar age and ability, and we aim to mix nationalities so everyone uses English and feels included.

Buckswood Overseas Summer School (BOSS) is based on the beautiful Buckswood campus in Guestling, near Hastings, East Sussex, England. Since 2011, we have welcomed students aged 8 to 17 from around the world to learn English, build confidence, and experience life in the UK countryside. Our accredited courses combine English language learning, leadership training, and cultural experiences, creating a safe and friendly environment where every student can learn, grow, and belong.
