Pre-departure testing removed for vaccinated travellers (again!)

As of Sunday 9th January at 4am, fully vaccinated travellers to the UK who have received an approved vaccine and under 18s will no longer be required to take a pre-departure test before travelling to the UK or take a PCR test or quarantine upon arrival in the UK. Instead, a cheaper and quicker lateral flow test can be taken on or before the end of day two.

This is a welcome change for Buckswood Overseas Summer School (BOSS) where we oversaw the arrival quarantine of just under 200 students in 2021, and administered 569 travel related PCR tests in just seven weeks during summer. It was however well worth it as we experienced one of the best summer schools ever with amazing students and an excellent team of staff. You can check out our photos and videos from our courses in 2021 on our Instagram page here.

To summarise:

  • Pre-departure tests before travelling to the UK are no longer required for eligible travellers, namely the fully vaccinated and under 18s.

  • PCR tests are no longer required for eligible travellers, however a lateral flow test must be taken on or before the end of day 2.

  • Quarantine is no longer required for the fully vaccinated and under 18s.

We hope that this positive update to the UK travel restrictions will help our parents, guardians, students and partners feel more confident, and at ease with booking a BOSS course this year as we hope that 2022 will be as successful as 2021!
