Choose It. Lead It. BOSS Pathways and Weekly Leadership Projects

At BOSS, every student is different. In 2027, they get more choice and more chances to lead than ever before.


This week, we are looking at BOSS Pathways and our new weekly Leadership Projects.

What are BOSS Pathways?


Every student chooses one of six Pathways when they book. Their Pathway runs three times a week, alongside English lessons and the full activity programme.


  • Sport: team sports, skills and match play

  • Active: fitness, adventure and games that keep you moving

  • Creativity: art, design and making, with work to take home

  • Performance: drama, music and dance, building to a show

  • Wellbeing: mindfulness, yoga and calm, confident habits

  • Strategy: chess, puzzles and problem solving games


How does it work?


  1. Choose when you book. Pick one Pathway on the booking form.

  2. Three sessions a week. Led by specialist staff, in small groups.

  3. Everything else too. English lessons, activities and excursions carry on as normal.


And whatever their Pathway, everyone joins in with our House Challenges: fashion shows, talent events, International Night, the BOSS Grand Prix, Capture the Flag and more.



New weekly Leadership Projects


Leadership has always been at the heart of BOSS. Now, every week of summer has its own project. Students plan it and deliver it themselves, from the first idea to the finish.


  1. BOSS Gallery: curate and host an art exhibition

  2. BOSS Takeover: run part of the school day

  3. BOSS Media: film, photograph and report on BOSS life

  4. BOSS Wellness: plan activities that help others feel good

  5. BOSS Bosses: turn £25 into a profit

  6. BOSS Planet: an environmental project with real results

  7. BOSS Charity: raise money for a local cause


Every student has 5 hours of leadership training a week and works towards the Young Leader Award from the Leadership Skills Foundation. And they do it all in English!



Ready for 2027?


  • The BOSS Spring Experience: 28th March to 17th April 2027. Book by Sunday 28th February 2027.

  • The Great British Summer Experience: 27th June to 14th August 2027. Book by Thursday 27th May 2027.

Buckswood Overseas Summer School (BOSS) is based on the beautiful Buckswood campus in Guestling, near Hastings, East Sussex, England. Since 2011, we have welcomed students aged 8 to 17 from around the world to learn English, build confidence, and experience life in the UK countryside. Our accredited courses combine English language learning, leadership training, and cultural experiences, creating a safe and friendly environment where every student can learn, grow, and belong.
