British Life, at Every Age
At BOSS, students don't just learn English. They live it. And from 2027, every stage of the BOSS experience fits their age.
This week, we are looking at our new weekly British themed activities and our new age groups.
A new British tradition every week
Every week of summer now has its own British themed evening on our East Sussex campus.
Great British Quiz: test your knowledge of the UK in house teams
Highland Games: tug of war, welly throwing and Scottish traditions
British Culture Night: music, food and customs from around the UK
BOSS Afternoon Tea: scones, sandwiches and good manners
The BOSS Ceilidh: traditional music and dancing for everyone
British Sports Afternoon: rounders, cricket and sports day classics
BOSS Village Fete: stalls, games and a proper village fete
British life doesn't stop there. Students live alongside British staff, eat British food and use everyday English from breakfast to lights out. Every week, they also enjoy 2 full day and 2 half day excursions to places like London, Brighton and Hastings.
BOSS Starters, Risers and Future
Every student aged 8 to 17 now joins one of three age groups. Care, independence and challenge are matched to their age.
BOSS Starters (8 to 11): strong foundations. Confidence speaking English, first friends abroad, simple routines and close staff support, day and night.
BOSS Risers (12 to 14): adventure and growing independence. Real world English on excursions, more choice in activities and first steps into leadership.
BOSS Future (15 to 17): preparing for what's next. Building the BOSS Portfolio, leading weekly projects, debates and presentations, and references on request.
Students live in houses grouped by age and gender. English classes are set by level, then mixed by age and nationality, so everyone speaks English. And everyone shares the same campus, meals and evening programme. One BOSS family!

The Great British Summer Experience: 27th June to 14th August 2027. Book by Thursday 27th May 2027.
Bookings officially open on Monday 2nd November 2026. Our booking form is ready now, and confirmation documents will be sent from that week.

Buckswood Overseas Summer School (BOSS) is based on the beautiful Buckswood campus in Guestling, near Hastings, East Sussex, England. Since 2011, we have welcomed students aged 8 to 17 from around the world to learn English, build confidence, and experience life in the UK countryside. Our accredited courses combine English language learning, leadership training, and cultural experiences, creating a safe and friendly environment where every student can learn, grow, and belong.
